Hawthorne Youth Council

The Hawthorne Youth Council (HYC) is now seeking applicants.

What is the Hawthorne Youth Council?

In November of 2009 the Hawthorne City Commission will be appointing 20 students to form the first Hawthorne Youth Council. The HYC meets monthly at the Hawthorne library and quarterly with the City Commission.

The mission of the HYC is to:

• Provide ongoing and direct input on government policies and practices that may affect teens
• Recommend and foster initiatives for and by youth
• Act as a communication link between City government and the youth of Hawthorne
• Promote and give recognition to the abilities, accomplishments, and contributions of the youth of Hawthorne
• Participate with other area youth councils in an annual Youth Summit
