City Commission Approves New Property Maintenance Code
Oxctober 20, 2010

The City Commission, last evening, adopted a revision to Chapter 22 relating to the maintenance of properties that broadened the definition of horticultural overgrowth and specifically defined areas of natual growth that are excluded.

The new language gives the City Manager to assign City staff to clean-up overgrowth, trash and other solid wastes, or to hire or retain private contractors to perform the cleanup.  The City Manager is authorized under this section to bill the property owner for the clean-up, including interest and other costs if liens are placed upon the property for non payment.

The amendment to the ordinance removed the 500 ft proximity to buildings from the old language and place the maintenance burden on all property owners within the City Limits.

This is the first revision to this ordinance since 1962.    A copy of the amended ordinance can be obtained by contacting the City Clerk at 352-481-2432, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
