 Matthew Surrency is married to Jeannie Sparkman from Waldo. They have one son Jacob and are expecting their second child in February 2010. Matt is the son of Ron and Sharon Surrency
(Former Mayor) and Grandson of Betty Surrency (former Commissioner). He is the second of four children (Heather, Scott and Amy). Matt is a life long resident of Hawthorne. He is a product of Hawthorne’s public education system attending Hawthorne Schools from Headstart to Graduation. He attended the University of Florida for Engineering, Criminology and Commercial Recreation. He will complete his degree June of 2009 from Saint Leo University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Criminal Justice. Matt was the first Recreation Director for the City of Hawthorne. Matt is the Head Baseball Coach at Hawthorne High School since 2004. Matt also works with the University of Florida Gator Radio Network. He also works at Florida Septic, Inc. of Hawthorne in Sales.
